Pierre Gerber has collaborated to the work of the Livestock Environment And Development (LEAD) Initiative, within the Animal Production and health Division of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO-AGA) since 2000.

As Livestock Policy Officer, Pierre Gerber contributes to the formulation and implementation of policy addressing livestock-environment interactions; work areas include livestock in climate change, soil and water pollution as well as environmental services in pastoral landscapes.

Degrees: Ingénieur Agronome (Master’s degree) in agriculture and natural resource management (Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Rennes, France); Diplôme d'Etudes Supérieure Spécialisées (Master’s degree) in environmental law and land use planning (University of Nantes, France) ; and Doctoral degree in agricultural economics (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich) with subject “Environmental policies for intensive livestock production in rapidly growing economies”.
