Allan Burgess is president of Australian Dairy Farmers (ADF), the national voice of Australia’s dairy farmers. He is also chairman of the Australian Dairy Industry Council (ADIC) and the Australian Dairy Herd Improvement Scheme (ADHIS).*
Allan is an established rural leader with more than 20 years experience in industry leadership in organisations deeply connected with rural Australia – particularly Australian agriculture and the dairy industry. Through this he has gained wide experience in marketing, research and development, regional development, industry restructuring, education and training and trade reform. He is regularly sought after by national and international bodies to provide insights and advice on strategic rural industry challenges.
Allan dairy farms near Shepparton in the southern Australian State of Victoria, milking over 1200 cows and 500 young stock.
He was a director of the National Farmers’ Federation (NFF)** from 2005-2006 and chaired their Trade Committee from 2003 to 2006.
*The ADIC is made up of ADF and the Australian Dairy Products Federation (ADPF). It provides the mechanism for dairy farmers and dairy companies – the whole dairy production and supply chain – to come together to agree whole of industry policy. ADHIS is the Australian dairy industry’s independent genetic evaluation service for dairy cattle.
**The NFF is the peak national body representing farmers and, more broadly, agriculture across Australia. |
